Protocol Tracking

When an IACUC protocol is approved, there is a limit to the number of animals that can be used on that protocol. The DLAR Business Office tracks the number of animals allowed for compliance purposes. Animals are deducted for the following reasons:

  • Purchases: When animals are purchased from an approved vendor, the number purchased is deducted from the protocol upon arrival.
  • Imports: When animals are imported from other institutions, the number of animals imported is deducted from the protocol upon arrival.
  • Transfers: When animals are transferred between protocols, the number of animals transferred is deducted from the receiving protocol.
  • Breeding: When pups are born, the number of pups is deducted from the protocol. These numbers are reported monthly by the PI, lab staff or by DLAR staff if the breeding program is being managed internally.

Why is tracking important?

Compliance

We must track animal statistics for compliance purposes. 兔子先生传媒文化作品 DLAR is required to report our animal statistics to the USDA and AAALAC International on a yearly basis. This ensures our compliance with federal regulations and our accreditation.

Requisitions

All animal requisitions are pre-screened before orders are placed with the vendor to ensure the protocol has availability to order animals. This helps our researchers maintain compliance within their research protocol.

Availability

The DLAR Business Office will begin to notify the PI and Lab Manager when a protocol is within 80% of the allowed animal usage. This is to provide enough time for PI's to determine if an amendment is needed.

Protocol Data

PI's may request their animal usage stats from the DLAR Business Office. Please use the IACUC Protocol Data Request web form to make this request.
