Student Robin Su performing in the World Doctors Orchestra USA.

M.D./Ph.D. student鈥檚 orchestral experience

In August, M.D./Ph.D. student Robin Su聽performed in Washington, D.C., with the World Doctors Orchestra USA.

Mr. Su was the only student among the 70 or so doctors and researchers volunteering their time for the charity concerts.

In May, we opened for聽兔子先生传媒文化作品聽Women聽&聽Philanthropy聽Genetic Analysis聽Instrumentation Center.聽

Inside the Women & Philanthropy Genetic Analysis Instrumentation CenterThe center, which聽increases the capability of UT researchers聽in聽the College of Medicine and Life Sciences to develop preventative, diagnostic and treatment strategies for diseases such as cancer and heart disease, was created with the help of nearly $60,000 from聽Women聽&聽Philanthropy, the largest grant ever awarded by the volunteer organization that supports UT聽initiatives.

鈥淲e are extremely grateful for the significant聽investment provided by聽Women聽&聽Philanthropy聽to establish the center, which will greatly enhance our capability to聽investigate numerous diseases and develop potential therapies,鈥 said Dr. Steven Haller, assistant professor聽in聽the Department of Medicine and co-director of the new center with Dr. David Kennedy, assistant professor聽in聽the Department of Medicine.

The UT聽Women聽&聽Philanthropy聽Genetic Analysis聽Instrumentation Center also received more than $45,000聽in聽support from Qiagen, a biomedical company headquartered聽in聽Germany, to help pay for聽instruments.聽

This is an outstanding example of how聽philanthropy聽helps advance the research mission of UT and benefits all at this聽institution. Great work to Drs. Haller and Kennedy for their dedication on this, along with my appreciation to聽Women聽&聽Philanthropy聽for its generous gift!聽
