Congratulations to Professor Bashar Al-Hariri (English) and Dr. Gaby Semaan (World Languages and Cultures) who have both been awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award.
The FAFSA delay continues to impact enrollment; this was anticipated, and the College is communicating with prospective students regularly with information and reassurance. The fiscal year 2025 budget (starting July 1, 2024) is still not finalized. There was robust interest in the call for volunteers for the CAL/JHCOE merger committee. Additional opportunities to be involved will be available.
The CAL Honors and Awards Ceremony is at 3 PM on May 3 in Doermann Theatre. Spring Commencement is May 4. - Executive Committee Report: Ammon Allred
The committee discussed the agenda for today鈥檚 meeting. Kelly McBane joined us as the Arts rep replacement for Holly Hey. - Faculty Senate Report: Melissa Baltus
The Executive Committee report reminded faculty of upcoming Senate elections and dean reviews for 3 colleges, and of the CAL/JHCOE merger. Senators were asked to be aware of pending legislation in other states; a bill removing shared governance at universities has been introduced in Arizona. The Provost Report noted that the dean of Engineering cause for resignation did not involve students.
As the master plan moves forward, physical movement of some departments and classrooms will take place. A proposal by the committee for the CAL/JHCOE merger will be presented by the Provost when ready. The search for the Director of the Honor鈥檚 College is ongoing. The program dashboard will list primary and secondary enrollments in major programs. A representative from the DEI office spoke and said a goal is to create connections and communication for faculty and staff to feel included. - Graduate Council Report: Jami Taylor
There will be no format review on theses this semester because of staffing issues. This will not affect graduation for students . It鈥檚 important for faculty and students to pay attention to accessibility in submitted theses. The lack of information on graduate funding is concerning. Grant proposals should be submitted very early for the review process. - Elections Committee Report: Beth Schlemper
Elections will be held in April. Enough faculty have accepted nominations to meet minimum number of representatives needed for the two at-large lecturer representatives, one each at-large T/TT in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and the three spots on CCAP (one each in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences). One more nominee is needed for the three Graduate Council openings. - Bylaws/Constitution Report: Jami Taylor
